3hens2cats
Hi all, Have ordered the above from my vet and wanted to ask...... i know it advocates dispersing the stuff through a weeks worth of food BUT is there any reason why you couldn't divide the said amount between 7 days and add to their evening treats. I maybe totally stupid (quite often am) but wondered if i did this and gave them a little bowl of mediated treats (sweetcorn and the like) over seven days I could ensure that they were all getting the right amount. I worry with mixing it in with their feed as I find that powder tends to fall to the bottom of the feeder iyswim. Many thanks, for you help Naomi PS the vets were most intrigued and said ' we dont get much of a call for that round here'
Egluntyne
Many people do this, but ideally the drug should be given throughout the course of the day, in the food, and not just in one hit as when given with treats. If administered according to the manufacturers instructions, each hen will get the correct dose for its age and weight. If added to grapes, or other treats, they all get the same, which might not be the correct dose.
Valkyrie
I split raisins in half and dip it into the powder - it sticks quite well, then close up the halves and the greedy monkeys don't know any difference. I tried with grapes but they turned their noses up. Where there's a will, there's a way!
Margalot
I added the flubenvet to the pellets as instructed and cut right back on the treats! You will find that the powder does distribute evenly on the pellets and as Eglutine says they then medicate according to their body weight, and self administer throughout the day
3hens2cats
Thank you all, I think I will do as manufacturer recommends, I have to collect it on Thursday and thanks to all your help think I am ready to run with it. thanks again it really is appreciated Naomi
Redwing
I add mine to the pellets, I start with a scoop of pellets and add a drop of cod liver oil (literally just a drop) stir well then add the Flubenvet, I then mix this scoop with two more scoops of plain pellets and then those three scoops to the remaining pellets, this way everything gets mxed in really well
Leicester_H
ideally the drug should be given throughout the course of the day, in the food, and not just in one hit as when given with treats. Oh - I hadn't heard that before. My 2 seem to like scouping the pellets out onto the floor and eating them from there. I'm not convinced much of the (expensive) powder will stay struck to the pellets. At least with grapes I know they're getting something like to right dose - but at the level of 2 chickens it is difficult. H
Valkyrie
Well I suppose the raisins could be dished out at odd times - mainly it's due to the weight of the bird getting the correct doseage. But my smallest one is the most voracious scoffer and the other two are more picky, so by dishing them out separately I am certain that they are actually getting treatment and not the wild population - which seems to be more the case here.
