What time do you let your chooks out in the morning?

Recommended Posts

My little early-birds are demanding to be let out @ 5.45 currently and this will get as early as 5.30 as sunrise gets earlier  and that's with a tarp covering the cube. Little monsters don't go to bed till nearly 9.00pm either (and that got as late as 10.30 last summer!).

Wouldn't mind but the little heavenlies were initially happy to sleep till much later, till the big girls taught them their bad habits

As late as I can get away with! After a few fiasco's lately, I breathe a sigh of relief when it gets to 8 without a peep. So they were out as usual at 9 again today. I was a very bad owner last night - I had forgotten to open the cube door and they couldn't go to bed. I wondered why they hadn't gone - they didn't even whinge!

My lot are up and about at 5am at the moment, I leave the Eglu doors ajar so that they can get out themselves. It was 9.40pm when they decided to roost last night.

By June they will be up at about 3am and probably go off into the Eglu about 11pm. The eglu doors will stay wide open then, 11pm is way passed my bedtime.

It's about 8am most days.

Petra is sooooo loud that I'm waiting for the complaints from the neighbours soon.

I have even found a future home for her with Ashtons Green Poultry should the need arise :(

She's so sweet too, & sits on Alexander's shoulder like she's a parrot & is really tame.

At the moment I let mine out at 6.30am but once my "FoxWatch" arrives I plan to leave the ladder down at night so that they can come out when they want protected by the FoxWatch hopefully. They will still be fully enclosed by our Ark and run so hopefully should be ok.
