Holes in my new lawn :-(

Recommended Posts

As many of you will know, I have a new turf lawn. After my boys played football briefly on it ( ) I noticed several tiny round patches which were just impacted soil and no grass. Now, however, I see there are loads all over the place (so I don't think it was the boys after all!).

I've been over them all with an old (cutlery) fork to break up the soil a bit.

Question: what might be causing it and what can I do? I have some grass seed (which I've used to patch an area Riley killed with his widdles  ). Can I just sprinkle a bit in each wee hole?

As soon as I saw that I thought BIRD. If it had been wet on the ground the birds go in for the worms.. they can do a fair bit of damage. Those spaces will infill pretty quick so I wouldn't worry.

Might be worth dropping a bit of grass seed in, just to stop weeds from getting hold in the bare soil. You might need to protect them from the birds though!

Depends on how precious you are about the grass. If it were me... I leave it to repair itself.
