Different brand auto door??

Hi, i have quite a large chicken run with a few trees and hedges however its starting to look a bit dull as all the low growing plants have been desimated so i was wondering what robust plants and bushes there are chickens wouldnt eat or scratch to shreds that i could use to liven it up a bit?

I don't know that there are many low growing plants that would survive I suppose you might get lucky with one of those ground hugging conifers....... My grandad has laurel and mahonia in his chicken run but they arent low growing

An escalonia has survived and gives mine shelter. I'm going to grow some shrubs in pots and when they are mature plant them in their area after testing to see how much they attack them. I think we're on a loser thinking of anything pretty.

I am not surprised they don't eat mahonia - those spikes are lethally sharp !

I've got 2 shrubs inside our run but I've no idea what they are . They're not being eaten so perhaps I should take a photo and get you lot to identify them so they can be added to the list .

Try planting some trays with grass seed, and it'll make it look a bit better (all be it for 10 mins )

Its not so much the eating,its the scratching up thats a big problem too

I would pop a couple of slabs under anything you plant,just to give it some protaction until it establishes itself.

 

If I am honest,I have planted heaps of things & never had anything survive,as they also seem to just shred plants for the joy of it too,without actually eating them
