munchkin
Hi I have just completed a flubenvet 7 day course with Prinny and Barbara. However i am thinking of buying xeno 200 to prevent creepy crawlies Would i be overdosing the girls if i used the xeno 200 within the next week as i have just realised that xeno 200 can also treat worms . Thanks
Egluntyne
No...because they work in different ways, the Xeno 200*not licensed for use on poultry in UK via the bloodstream, and the Flubenvet directly on the worms in the gut. I never use them at the same time as I think it a sensible precaution not to, but often use one and then a week later the other, with no problems. quickcluck
How long do you need to withdraw the eggs for, and what do you do with them? Can you cook them an give them to the girls and the dog??? Why do you need to withdraw them?
Budgies
The eggs become tainted with the drug and are therefore not recommended for consumption at all during the time frame recommended. By feeding them back to your girls you might give the girls more of the drug inadvertantly.
Barkisland
OK, *stupid question alert* How do you weigh a chicken? Mine are very awkward about being picked up or handled in any way. Is there a 'rough guide to chicken weights' anywhere? This Ivermectin (*not licensed for use on poultry in UK) stuff requires you to accurately weigh your bird before dosing. I'm supposing 'Guesstimation' is no good in this case?
Gamebird
This is a quote from AJuff which was posted in the Chicken section on 29th June 2008:- I've just been out to weigh the hens! How sad is that? I just want to be sure I don't under or overdose them with Xeno 200. Delia the brown Nick is the smallest she weighs 1.4kg = 7 sprays/1.4ml Daisy is a mid size hybrid she weighs 1.9 = 10 sprays/2ml Darcy is a heavy large black rock she weighs 2.8kg = 14 sprays/2.8ml On that basis I give my girls 7 to 10 sprays on the back of the neck (a place they can't reach) when they have gone to bed (so the other girls can't get their beaks in) and by the morning the Xeno 200 has soaked in and the chickens are dry and safe to touch. Obviously your pure breeds will be heavier. You could stand on scales and weigh yourself and then stand on the scales with your chicken and the difference is the weight of the chicken. Barkisland
Thanks a lot Gamebird that's really helpful. I've Xeno'd, red mite powdered, and purple sprayed the chookies, and poultry shielded, pressure washed and Diatomed the housing. I'm beggared, and covered in purple spray Had a jolly good rummage through the feathers, much to their disgust!. Still cannot see any creepies on the girls, but thought I saw some mites in the Cube nest box - like red spider mite, but darker colour, maybe dark brown? Thanks I use xeno 200 on my girls and then flubenvet about a week later and my girls have always been fine. As Egluntine says, they both work in different ways, but I don't do both at the same time. Sarattie
Im considering purchasing this, what is the egg withdrawal period? Assiming they were sprayed on a monday.... would it be 7 days or longer? and how often would they need to be sprayed. Dont like the thought of creepy cralies in my cube next box as they tend to sleep in there, even when i bung th hole, they jump over! grrrr atm I just use applecider and wormwood in water, but this way I could just use the xeno 200 and not worry about other stuff? The Dogmother
No...because they work in different ways, the Xeno 200*not licensed for use on poultry in UK via the bloodstream, and the Flubenvet directly on the worms in the gut. I never use them at the same time as I think it a sensible precaution not to, but often use one and then a week later the other, with no problems. Same here, except that I use Ivomec Eprinex (cattle pour-on) *not licensed for use on poultry in the UK*, I never treat with the two at the same time. Egg withdrawal period for products containing Ivermectin is one week from treatment, this is because the product isn't licensed for use on animals in the food chain. Yer average hybrid weighs around 1.5kg, with bigger birds such as the Bluebelle and Sussex star being around 2kg.
gavclojak
Dogmother, do you dose once every four or six months or dose once and then again two weeks later? I have always dosed once every six months and not had any problems touchwood but is that right? My ex commercial girls get six drops on the back of the neck

mollyripkim
Just a thought on weighing them, I use a bucket on a pair of kitchen scales, zero the scales and then add the chicken.
