Martin B
The winter weather will normally put a chicken off lay! She will resum laying when she feels like it!
ubereglu
How old is she? If she's over a year she might be moulting and if she's a youngster she might just be practising laying her eggs.
Sheilaz
...and does she freerange at all? If so, there may be a clutch under a bush.
xEmmax
Thanks for the suggestions. She only free ranges when there is someone in the garden to keep an eye on her and her 'sister' Penny, don't want the cats getting too close! They are both youngsters, I've had them for four weeks now and Copper after a good start has slowed to a halt with the eggs, Penny still gives us an egg every two days. Thanks again, Emma
ali-s
Does she eat plenty of pellets or mash? Or does she gets lots of treats? Chickens need to eat their pellets or mash as they have everything in them for a chicken to lay eggs. Too many treats could stop a chicken from laying. My lot were given too many treats and stopped laying A week just being fed pellets soon sorted them out

freak29
I got mine and after a week they both stopped laying, they started laying again about a month after. But Jenny is stopping now (1 every 3 days kind of thing) but I assumed it was the winter weather.
Gallina
Chickens don't lay nearly as many eggs in the winter (especially the pure breeds). Thus it is that in winter a chicken-keeper's fancy turns to buying more hens. I am trying to suppress my urge for another two hens, as we have an urban fox hanging around at the moment. But if I have to stand guard over three hens all the time, why not have five? (I will break soon.)
feemcg
This is my dilemma too. We are currently converting a workshop to be a bigger, drier run. However it could probably accomodate about 12 chickens. I want to introduce 3 more when we put the current 3 in but OH wants to let them 'settle' first. Also not sure if its best to wait till spring - better to only have 3 experiencing long, dark winter days than 6.......oh, what to do? I would LOVE some more as I totally adore them and love having the eggs...but what about the poo??? There is so much poo!!!! I would wait until spring and see how you fared in the winter. Thats my sensible head - now my other one gets to talk...GET MORE IF YOU CAN...THEY ARE FABULOUS any help???
Lindy Loo
Mine have slowed down on the laying front too - they tend to lay every other day at the moment and my Buff Orpington has stopped laying altogether - again. it seems she is always either broody, moulting or just resting!
