What should I put in an accompanying letter?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you can help me, as I need advice in what to put in my accompanying letter for a job I'm applying for-it's basically the same place I did work experience at, I have a vague idea, but can anyone give me further advice please?

My letters are always a bit different because its work experience.

You could say you've been there before, enjoyed the experience and think you'd fit in so are applying for a job.

If you're attaching a CV you won't need to, but you could put where and what you're studying and contact details.

If you haven't had to do it in an application form, explain why you want the job, and what special talents you bring to it. Sound very enthusiastic!

Always end with something like " I hope these brief details are helpful. I'll be pleased to explore these points further at interview", so that you give the impression you have something even more interesting to say.

But if you've done work experience there, they may not think it necessary to hold an interview unless it's very competitive.

Watch the spelling too!

Go for the real "American style" sales pitch on yourself.

Opening paragraph about how great you are

Bulleted list of your skills

Closing paragraph about how much you would enhance THEIR organisation.

Be a lot more pushy and brash than you would normally be - the letter does the selling then you firm it up in person.
