How do you keep your seed packets tidy ?

Recommended Posts

Too keep in with my red theme ..... Cube, fleece, crocs etc.... I've given a new lease of life to an old tool box.

FIL (RIP) used to be a joiner and always made his own tool boxes. As MIL had no use for them and OH only needed one I had an idea.

I thought that the sections once used for nails, screws, drill bits were just the right size for seed packets.

So....

I managed to find a marked down roll of fuzzy fablon for the handle to make it more comfortable.

It's amazing how many packets of seeds one collects once you get the grow your own bug :)

Mine are in a little wooden box that used to be for OH's (and his dad and grandad's) carpet labels, since it has deteriorated somewhat and was going to be thrown away, I rescued it because it has sections that can be altered. It measures around 15 inches wide and about 18 inches long. I put them in order that they have to be planted - with the dividers marked up with the months of the year. Those for second sowings go back in the same section or put away for another month or so. Those that are finished with are put in an ice cream box until next year. It lives in the utility where it isn't really suitable for seed saving, but I haven't had any problems and some of my seeds are yonks old.

When i had an allotment, i knitted a massive pocket holder with initials of the months stitched onto the pockets. I then put my seeds in the pocket according to which month i would be sowing them. I had 15 pockets in all as i inevitably had lots of seed to sow in April/May so had more pockets for those months. The whole thing was backed by a piece of old curtain to take the weight and enable it to hang from the handy curtain tabs.

Now i don't have an allotent, DD uses it for knick-knacks
