You know that long ventilation slot in the bottom of the nestbox? What do you cover yours up with? It's costing me a fortune in lost Aubiose, as every time I think I've worked out a satisfactory solution, my girls go and scrat about until they've proven me wrong. The most robust solution I found so far was a flexible bamboo tablemat, but I think it was harbouring mites and had to get rid of it, so I am back to square one.

I think someone on here (Claret maybe???) has a strip of plastic similar to that used in milk bottles with some bolts through (I think they act as weights) which sits over the gap

Hopefully that makes sense!

Failing that you could try greenhouse shading - the sorts that is thick plastic about 2mm thick and has small holes in perhaps?

Ah, thank you, weights, yes that sounds like it would work. I have tried plastic mats and strips of plastic and cardboard, but the girls easily managed to kick them aside, but if there was something through the plastic to hold it in place...

Thanks so much.

What is the purpose of that stupid big hole anyway :?: Surely it's far too big to be a ventilation hole? I would go as far as to say it is a design fault.
