You've got into rearing meat chickens, then? Jon keeps talking about doing that, but I'm not sure I'd have the nerve. Would love a smallholding though, so that I could keep loads of chickens, maybe a few pigs and sheep. I can dream, can't I?

Yes we've got 5 "dinners" growing at the moment, they're 8 weeks old. We went on the Sheffield dispatching course to learn how to do the deed with other Omleteers. There's rather a long section in the self sufficiency section about our adventure!

We really wanted to try our hand at rearing a few for the table. I just find most supermarket chicken to be either hugely expensive or a bit watery and tasteless so we only buy from the farmers' market.

Hopefully our home reared should be delish!
