ChrisP
A few weeks ago I posted about how I hurt my shoulder and it went "crack"...well after a trip to A&E, x-rays, and physio sesisons, it appears that I have a hypermobile shoulder, and probably partially dislocated it I have been given exercises with a piece of stretchy elastic to use, but it grinds when I do them, so have to start off doing them in a minimal way. Also have normal exercises to do, but these are proving challenging too If it doesn't stop crunching in 6 weeks I have to go and be referred to an orthopaedic doctor/surgeon Anyone else experienced this? How long does it take to get back to normal? Thanks guys
Scramble
Haven't had this, but I hope you're feeling better soon

Tina C
Have not experienced it personally but have a friend who had same thing - first happened when she was in her teens. She is now 30 something and has just had op to fix it. Because she used to sort it out herself (I think it involved jamming herself hard against a wall and WAS painful to do) the doctors did not believe it had kept on dislocating. It had got to the point it was happening a lot so she insisted on the op. I guess the best advice is to do the exercises but if they don't work have the op - she had keyhole surgery, barely any scars and although there is a recovery period ,with physio, she is more or less back to normal (but better than what 'normal' was for her before the op)
Charlottechicken
I think Hellywelly and Lesley know quite a bit about hypermobility. Hope you get back to your normal fitness levels soon.
Sunshine
Sounds painful. (I just had to google what a hypermobile shoulder was) My little sister is having problems with her shoulder area at the moment, whenever she raises her arm on either side a bone pops out. she has been to see the GP and 2 specalists and is now having an MRI scan in a few weeks. They don't know what it is and they all say different things about whether she can do PE or not. I guess its just a case of taking it easy and trying to do the exercises you have been given as best as your shoulder allows you to. Hope it gets sorted soon. Lesley
I certainly do..... .....but it may not help you. My granddaughter has hypermobile joints and had no end of problems with her shoulders. She can pop them back in herself now and can't have an operation as her shoulders are multilaterally unstable so they can't pin them. She doesn't feel pain with hers(part of the syndrome she has) - just unable to move. The last time it came out and wouldn't go back was in the swimming pool when a lad turning at the deep end kicked her shoulder She is a good swimmer but isn't allowed to go on her own just at the age where she could Hopefully, your shoulder problem will be short term, the grinding doesn't sound good though - go carefully with the exersizes, Lauren has been given inappropriate exersizes by Physio before now........trust your instincts and ask questions. katieadams
I have hypermobile joints in my knees and ankles and have done for years - I saw the gp, then the physio, then the bio-mechanics, and finished up with the advice to just wear 4" heels all the time Then they suggested the ortho surgeon and I ran off and never went back Kind of wish I'd had it sorted though some days I can't do anything because of the knee pain
