She was nearly four and had been poorly for a little while now, so we were half-expecting it but it still wasn't nice to come home and find her.

 

The question now is - what do we do with her? Can anyone advise please?

So sorry to hear you're sad news. Your vet will cremate her for a fee but you can dispose of her in your household rubbish too.

Hennypenny - sorry you have lost your girl, but that's a fab age, I think? We buried Samosa under (well, right by) our quince tree - which is quite small still and at the bottom of the garden - and buried her deep. Then we put stones (quite big) on the top, so that Mabel wouldn't dig her up.

 

Personally, I love the fact that she is in the garden. We only had her 3 weeks and I was devastated by her death, so can't imagine what it must be like to have a chicken for as long as you have had Rita.

I'm sure it was still a shock, even though she had been unwell.

 

She lived to a good age and must have had a very happy life with you.
