Electricbarbarella
Obviously I have only had the girls a year so am far from expert. I will decribe, and mayb e hunt for a couple of photos. Big girls are ina cube, 9 girls, 3 of whom are ex batts, they have 2 extensions as well as the standard run, they are on wood chip with slaps round the edge. They have 2 grubs and a super glug, they have 2 ikea shoe racks pone on each side of the run and a hanging ball thing for greens. I poo pick and rake over their run about once a week, they free range for about an hour most days. I clean the house and nest box out probably twice a week, more if it is hot, or in winter I do it daily as they are in for a lot longer. I close the cube door in winter, leave it open once the m ornings start getting lighter. In a purple eglu I have a broody hen, sat ion 5 bantie eggs, the hope is that we will get 2 or 3 girls as I feel that would be a nice amount in the eglu, this has no extensions. I am poo picking the second she does anything as . she has food and water in reach of the nest, newspaper throught the eglu, no roosting bars and a shredded paper nest, we will get some aubiose and jay cloths befolre the end of the week. just to give you an idesa of the size of my garden. Egg Lou
You are obviously very shaken by your other post.. your set up sounds absolutely fine to me and very similar to my own...and your girls are extremely well cared for! Try not to worry as it sounds a million miles away from an rspca case! think of the battery hen industry for a start! I'm sure you would have been spoken to there and then if they had any queries so try to shrug it off.. Best wishes Lou x
Jules.
Let me tell you that you are a wonderful chicken mummy x My girls only get cleaned out once a week, perhaps stretching to 10 days if the weather on cleaning out day is vile & that's all year round. The chicks run I hose down every couple of days as they are on the patio with a dustbath in the run. I don't poo pick-ever & my girls are on the same woodchip now for at least the last 6 weeks & I expect them to stay on it for a few more weeks I don't let my big girls out if the weather has been wet, to preserve the grass, so sometimes in the winter they might only get a couple of hours free ranging a week. I'm sure that if my hens had half the chance they would come to live with you! Please don't let the incident with your neighbour upset you x
Egluntyne
I have visited your set up and can see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Guest
Hi I had only just read this post and was just thinking well that sounds perfect to me(extra runs +++ etc) then I read on further re previous post.... you have been potentially visited by RSPCA over a neighbours fence. I think something is amiss here. I once reported a dog to the RSPCA that was being mistreated they went and visited the neighbour directly, they did not come to my house at all so as not to compromise me. I think your nosey neighbour is getting her nosey friend to see what their personal opinion is. Another RSPCA story, my sisters 37 year old horse in 16 acres of back garden use to lay down a lot and was very bony due to its old age arthritis etc etc and they had a knock on the door as someone reported the horse to the RSPCA, the RSPCA knocked to tell them they had indeed visited and realised themselves the horse was old and well looked after. So you get out in your lovely set up, you clean yours more than me! and enjoy your chickens. Get some good friends round for a cuppa and some nice home made cakes and on a nice day sit out and admire your wonderful chickens. You never know when you may need a good neighbour. so chillo dont worry, your garden is immaculate! I would buy myself a nice bench and go and sit and fuss over your mother hen! Good luck with that..I am going to have a go at the hatching in the future...let us know how it all goes(nosey me) indie
