emily95
Please help, my neighbour owns a dairy farm, and up until now have been selling 700 litres of milk every other day to the milkmarque. Recently the co-op stopped buying milk from the milkmarque, and now my neighbours have no-one to sell their milk to. They can't sell their milk to big companies all across the country, because they don't have a big enough herd, they would need to sell 1000 litres every day, and they only sell 700 litres every other day. They don't want to go into cheese making/ice-cream making, because again, there isn't a ready market for it, and they've seen people go into cheese/ice-cream and their businesses have failed. They do sell pints of milk and cream to the local area (milnrow) and the local primary school. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to who they could sell such a large amount of milk to. And has anyone else heard of local supermarkets taking local produce, because my mum thinks she heard that Asda and Tesco have small sections of the supermarket where they take local produce. And that means that we could think about approaching them, and see if they would be interested in taking the milk. And we were thinking about going back to the co-op now that there is more interest in going green and local. Any ideas gratefully received, Sorry its a bit long Emily xxx
Chickvic
I would def approach some supermarkets. Asda has quite a range of local produce going - I always buy the local stuff even if it is slightly more expensive. Are there any local restaurants that would be interested in taking some? Geoid
I had a look on the Dairy Crest website and I found this: if you are a dairy farmer and would like to supply Dairy Crest, or find out more about direct supplies, please call 01372 472372 http://www.dairycrest.co.uk/our-business/farming-relations.aspx
Ygerna
Have they contacted local cheese producers? Often these will take smaller amounts. Hope they find a buyer soon.
littleleicesterfox
Have they tried other local farm shops that are atached to pick-your-own farms? Ours sells eggs and milk from lots of places.
jackiepoppies
I would suggest they look at Solleys Farm Deal. They started off in the same way and now have a thriving business. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Jx

ajm200
Do you have a farmers city market or similar near you. Geography is not my strongest subject www.farmercitymarket.com
Charlottechicken
In the all things nice section, Egluntine has posted a link to something called making local food work. They appear to want suppliers who want to sell their produce locally to get in touch. I only speed read it but it looks worth investigating! Good luck
