mostin
It's a surprise . Her OH has no idea what eggs are under her broodies. He is scottish and thinks that they brought a load of scotts grey and scotts dumpy eggs home. He has no idea there are naked necks and silkies under there . How bad is she? laurmurf
Ahhhhhh - they are cute! Someone has to love them - poor loves! Emma.x exactly - I have this lovely image of little baldie heads sticking out from under my fluffy Willow.... come on, you lot, you know you'll all be saying a huge 'ahhhh' when you see them! I think the combination of naked chickens, silkie chickens and an astonished OH is an iimage i can't wait to see (talk about counting my naked chickens before they're hatched!) ps - hey, Mostin, I rang Temple Newsam today because the absolute longing for a Speckled sussex overwhelmed me and any sense i have... thank good ness for me the cockerel still isn't doing right by his ladies, so no fertile ones at the mo.... lucky escape! pinkmagic
I'm not keen on naked necks tbh, one of my ex batts could easily be mistaken for one at the minute!
HENthusiastic
Sorry they just don't look right to me. Feel the need to knit them some scarves I'm with you on that one Smanners. Lets all knit them a little collection of scarves before they are born, poor loves. Have they actually evolved naturally to be that way, or have they been 'manufactured' to be like that??? That's because he is waiting for the planets to align so that the broody chicken of fate (that OH can't turn away), has time to turn up at my door, get settled in, and then I can have some of those eggs too . WitchHazel
Naked necks are really lovely Girls. One of my original Girls, Scarlett, was a Naked Neck. I'd definitely get another one, when I can stop looking agt them and thinking of her. Here's some pics This is her from my bedroom window. She always looked quite elegant when she had her neck extended, reminded me of Audrey Hepburn EDITED TO ADD: They evolved that way. It's how they keep cool. The photos can't do justice to the beqautiful black feather which had a kind of beetlegreen shimmer to them. (also resized my monster pic)

Isobel
I don't think it matters what they look like on the outside really - I'm sure they all look exactly like this underneath anyway!

laurmurf
ps - hey, Mostin, I rang Temple Newsam today because the absolute longing for a Speckled sussex overwhelmed me and any sense i have... thank good ness for me the cockerel still isn't doing right by his ladies, so no fertile ones at the mo.... lucky escape! That's because he is waiting for the planets to align so that the broody chicken of fate (that OH can't turn away), has time to turn up at my door, get settled in, and then I can have some of those eggs too . oh dear mostey, that's asking a lot - not just a COF but a BROODY COF here's an idea, why not create your very own broody COF and speckled darllings? Firstly we'll wait for one of my to hatch out a white silkie boy, then when he's entered puberty he can hide in my car and pay a secret visit to your house, then he'll slip out into the garden while ShaunW is distracted by vast quantities of K's rocky road (yes, I fully expect K to take part in this exercise) then my boy will go spend some 'special time' with your Lilly. When she hides herself away to hatch her babies they'll all come out like my Babs (who is a Goldentop or Clocker - a darling buff creation arising from the conjugal visitation of a handsome white male silkie and a floozy of a light sussex). THEN you and i will go to Temple Newsam 'for a coffee' and my new pal Shelley, the farm manager, will slip some fertile eggs (ever so gently mind) in a bag cunningly held open at your feet. We'll then go back to your house to visit your girls, you will head straight up to see your Clocker as it will, no doubt, be corn o'clock. Bending down to meet this girl's demands, the fertile speckled sussex eggs will roll - ever so gently - under this permanently broody girl. Easy does it, no? ShaunW couldn't possibly turf the fertile eggs out, cause that would be just the same as murder (and they wouldn't make a suitable omlette anyway). In a few short and easy steps you'll end up with an assured broody and a whole nestful of Speckled Sussex chicks
