Not all vets seem to to do lampshades anymore for speying. My last girl 2 years ago was done with stiches under the skin so no collar and nothing to come out - she was right as rain after a couple of days of hissing when she jumped on things. certainly much easier than the collar which does seem to upset them. Lets hope that orchid is as lucky. :D

Poor Marmite went to be spayed when we first got her. It turned out she had already had the op (she had been abandoned so we didn't know).

 

She was so pitiful and we felt so sorry for her that she slept on our bed under the duvet with her lampshade on that night, and with us every night after that until she was too frail to climb the stairs. Previous to that we had insisted on 'downstairs at night' but we both melted :roll::cry: .

 

I'm sure Orchid will be back on your knee in no time at all!

Well she's on my knee at the moment. We were away in the caravan this weekend & Orchid was as good as gold this time. She found a right cozy spot on one of the bunks where it was nice & cool & we put the blown air (cold) on for her.

She is having lots of cuddles & her favorite food tonight.

I'll see how she gets on with a lampshade, it does say she will have one. :roll:

My poor little luvvie.

Well we took her at 9am this morning. The vet said she has a grade 2 heart murmur. :(

She also thinks she is about 2 - 3 years old. :(

We had to really think about what was best for her as regards being speyed & the risks of anaesthetics, but the vet said that any more seasons would put more stress on her heart, so we decided to go ahead. Had to sign a form etc. They were very nice & explained everything.

12 ish, I got a phonecall asking for permission for them to make another incision as they were having a job locating the uterus. We agreed.

Rang at 2pm saying that she's all sewn up, microchipped - but she had no uterus! There was no scar to say that she had ever been speyed before, so the vets are thinking maybe she was born without one. They did check incase of any male organs inside her.

So now I am full of guilt for putting her through all that today.

She is no longer my friend & is sulking under the coffee table.

I have to put a lamp shade on her later & also give her liquid pain killer via a syringe in her mouth. Tomorrow I have eye cream to put in her left eye, as she has a slight s"Ooops, word censored!"e on her cornea.

I hope she can forgive me for what I've done to her - I feel dreadful! Poor love.

I've been forgiven. She is on my knee purring away. She even had a mad half hour earlier of whacking pink mousey around the floor. :roll:

I can not in no way get her to wear this lamp shade! She could do with it on a bit as she keeps licking her stitches.

She is very content though at the moment. :D

She did do an awful fart a bit ago which was really really bad & on my knee. :vom: I suppose it's all the upset of yesterday.

Cats love to sulk and make you feel guilty... at least with kids you can explain your decisions and try to reason (not always successful, but it helps), but with cats you just have to bear them glaring at you and ignoring you...

Glad to know she's come round... our cat has a bad heart murmur and every decision about his health have to be made around that... not easy... good to hear Orchid was fine during the op.

Ah glad to hear she was fine, When mine had her op she never even had to have stiches and no lamp shade! i doubt she will have a scar either so perhaps she may have been done before by a brilliant surgeon like mine!!?? or have you had her since a kitten?

 

Cats love to try and hold grudges dont they but they cant keep it up at all!! Mine boy sulks and tips all his buscuits out his bowl when hes annoyed with me but within 5 minutes hes back for a cuddle again!!

Our baby girl Mimz (bichon maltaise puppy) gets spayed tmrw morning and we r dreading every minute of it! and tonight too... thats why we r browsing this site to try take our minds off it!! feel like poo making her have it done ...... :cry: but its for the best so got to keep telling ourselves that!

When I worked at the RSPCA we had cats in for speying all the time that had already been speyed. It is often impossible to see the scar. Don't feel guilty there is no way that you would know. We also had lots of cats that were male that owners though were female and so ALWAYS had to check the sex when they came in. Many a cat had to have a hasty name change when it got collected :lol::lol:
