HELP: Run out of grit - Phew Orderd a 25kg Sack of grit

Recommended Posts

:shock::shock:

Hello,

We get some Super mixed corn from Flyte So Fancy and have just run out

Well my mum feeds them it in the afternoon, and she's only just told me they have none left :wall:

We won't be able to get any till next week  so is there anything i can use till then?

Thanks

Raina

P.S. We did have a look in our local petshop in Walsall a few weeks ago and they don't sell any :(

An animal feeds merchant would be your best bet - horse supplies, that kind of thing. Try looking in your yellow pages.

Is it corn or grit you have run out of? They need grit to grind up food, but they can cope without mixed corn for a few days - give them some apple, grapes or sweetcorn for an alternative treat.

OH No we put the yellow pages in the burning bin yesterday with everything else we were burning :wall: (looks like a trip to google lol)

Its both, The grit is in the the Corn, along with oyster shell.

They sell mixed corn and grit at:

Hungry Horse

Fox Hill Farm

Weeford Rd, Sutton Coldfield, B75 6NA

0121 308 8080

Pets at Home sell grit aswell but for parrots, and I'm sure theres one in Walsall.

You could always put the egg shells in the microwave for a minute and feed them back to the chickens.

if your hens are already free ranging in the garden they will find their own though

I found an old reference book on the web that mentioned making your own grit from broken crockery - broken up into pieces as small as peas. Haven't tried it yet so don't know whether or not this is a good idea.

I don't know whay but it sounds like a bad idea to me :?

I'm sure it would work for the process of grinding up food though.
