bigmommasally
for a plumber to fit a new downstairs loo and sink. A lad at work has just left to become a plumber. He has done a course and is now looking for work. As I wanted a new downstairs loo and sink I thought I'd offer him the job. He said his charges would be two thirds of the going rate, trouble is I have no idea what the going rate is! Does anyone know a rough estimate of what plumbers charge. Thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
Can't help with your query but a lad at my work is leaving after having done a plumbers course too .
bluekarin
I don't know I'm afraid. Maybe get a couple of professionals in for a quote.

WarrensWorld
If the loo is next to or near an outside wall (not the front of the house though) it should be an easy fix. Getting the water to the cloakroom isn't a problem with the new flexi pipe. please don't use a saniflo system. They do block up, and unblocking them is ............ Sorry I can't give you a price, We renovated our circa 1850 cottage and built a large extension. 1, Family bathroom 1, En suite 1, Guests cloakroom and the Kitchen. Plumbing with the new pipes is not rocket science. Have you not considered doing the cloakroom yourself. The hardest part would be boring the 4" hole for the waste pipe. Caution, there are plumbing courses, and there are plumbing courses. Good luck with the cloakroom. Colin.
bigmommasally
Sorry obviously haven't made myself clear, There is already a loo and sink in place, a yucky brown 1980 suite and we want the plumber to take it out and replace it with a new white one, in exactly the same place. I just need an estimate for the labour costs. OH has thought about doing it himself but when this lad said he was starting out we thought we'd give the job. Yolky
I just asked the OH and he says that round here it would be between £120 and £140 a day approx.
bluekarin
I would echo the not getting a saniflo. We had one when we lived oop north. It was the most disgusting thing ever could barely cope with one sheet of loo roll.
Egluntyne
Caution, there are plumbing courses, and there are plumbing courses. I was just going to say the same thing. YS is an apprentice plumber at the end of his 3rd year of a 4 year course. You can do an 8 week course at night school, one night a week and call yourself a plumber. YS gets sent on quite a few call outs to rectfy the work done by some of these. When you say he has just left your place............. YS said you should expect to pay no more than £20-25 an hour (cash) for his labour plus the cost of the basin, loo and bits and pieces and the job, if straighforward, should take a couple of days, tops, depending on if you are expecting a bit of plastering and tiling. Patricia W
I'd get a couple of quotes anyway and quiz them about what they will do etc. Then match what they say with the bloke you know. Also, as the others say, there are plumbing courses and plumbing courses. A lot of training companies are cashing in on the perception that plumbers earn megabucks. Not always true. He should have a proper NVQ etc
