house-elf
Would like to know how much a chicken should on average drink per day please ?
chickencam
At this time of year when mine are in full lay and the weather is warm the glug would go down by half when I had 4 hens so that would make 300-500ml per hen per day which seems a lot but then they do have a dry diet and a lot of liquid must go into egg production
Ain't Nobody Here
When I was dosing my 3 with Zolcal D (liquid calcium) I measured out 1 litre of water per day. They almost finished that amount every day (one warm day they had finished it completely ).
Helly Welly
If you are worried they aren't drinking enough, remember they are drinking yucky water that collects around the garden. Half the time they prefer it to fresh water. We have a large bucket drinker in the run and in this hot weather we put a couple of extra dishes around the garden. TAJ
I was told at least ½ pint per chicken a day - if you think of the fluid in an egg daily, let alone their own needs you can understand why they drink a lot. Now I have my 18 litre drink continer I know 6 chickens cannot finish it in a day. Tracy
jlo
If you are worried they aren't drinking enough, remember they are drinking yucky water that collects around the garden. Half the time they prefer it to fresh water. We have a large bucket drinker in the run and in this hot weather we put a couple of extra dishes around the garden. This is reassuring! I get a bit cheesed off that I am constantly emptying the glug and refilling it and yet they will go for all the manky water that has gathered around the bowl near the garden tap!
