kimbo_frog
Hi teri!! yes they do look very similar!! I just got a mixture of 6 blue eggs and 2 brown from the farm... Ended up wuth 2 duff blue ones and 2 of each left The chick #1 came from a blue egg, so im thinking Legbar or Araucana Chick #2 came from a brown egg and looks similar but slighly lighter and small comb Chick #3 came from brown egg and looks slightly grey than others but is still wet... I know they had several breeds at the farm including Wyandott, Legbars, Welsummer, Marans, Araucana Im leaning towards the probability that the unhatched egg is the Araucana as its quite a green/blue so that would make the chick poss a Legbar??... trying to find the website that has photos of chicken breeds with their eggs and chicks to have a better guess lol... kimbo_frog
Had a better look now... 2 chicks #2 and #3 look like they have small combs, both from brown eggs both also look very alike pattern wise...full white stripes along back #1 no visable comb...from blue egg...white stripes but broken egg #4 might be a duff see here http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=47860 Just need to find out exactly what they are lol.... Redwing
I'd say chick 1 is a cream legbar and chick 2 is a welsummer as my welsummer was nearly exactly lke chick
kimbo_frog
Thanks Redwing... I think Im def in agreement!!....chick 3 looks like chick 2...so poss both are Welsummers They both have combs, so is this typical of the breed or is it because they are both boys? Theres nothing at all on chick 1.... I was wondering if they were going to different breeds from the brown eggs, as if you look in the pics one was quite dark compared to the other lighter speckled one... removed egg 4, smelly and "sloshing" Kim
Lewis
removed egg 4, smelly and "sloshing" Did you crack it open and see if it was developing?
kimbo_frog
removed egg 4, smelly and "sloshing" Did you crack it open and see if it was developing? It did smell quite bad...I grabbed one of the hatched empty shells and gave it a sniff... But it was nothing like the smelly one...The sloshing noise was very aparent too!! I was actually scared to crack it open....euw...but when I did...YUK!! Nothing at all in there...so was a no go from the start.... Poor dustmen will have a shock if they lift the lid Tuesday....blurghh
