My New Chickens!

Recommended Posts

my dog is driving my mad now though!

She's seperated from the grassed bit of the garden by a fence so everytime I let her out now she's barking like mad at them!!

I'm hoping she'll settle down and realise they're not going to fly into her mouth!

yes any tips on the dog would be great lol.

I've been praising her for not barking at them but now she's constantly whining!

She's a dalmatian, so when she wants something she will go at long lengths to get it lol. Takes her a while to realise sometimes she just can't. There's no way she can get to any of the pets through the fence. She can see the rabbits through it running about which used to drive her mad but now she has lost interest in them and leaves them alone. I think she'll do the same for the chickens eventually.

a friend of mine has a labrador who behaved the same way as your dog when he got his chickens. he used an old plastic milk bottle with a bit of gravel in it which he shook by the dog when it went mad at the chickens? apparently dogs don't like the noise. it worked with his dog after a few days.

my dog, a staffie called chunk, accidently killed one of my girls when they first arrived after my daughter let him out by mistake. i introduced him to my girls slowly with them in the garden and chunk on a lead. he now shares the garden quite happily and even baby sits our chicks! (there's a video of him with the chick on the forum)

i'm sure your dog will settle down eventually. good luck and welcome to the club :D
