Prolapsed vent - am I getting it right?

We have broody hen sitting on some fertile eggs at the moment. She has access to food and water, clean next etc etc. I have seen her eating once but her comb and wattles are extremely pale and they are normally bright red!

 

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It could be that she isn't laying or because all her heat us going to the eggs?

Just make sure she is going to the loo and eating/drinking

Could she be being bothered by lice or mites, that can make them lose colour and broody hens are very vulnerable to them

This is perfectly normal! Don't worry, they're just using all their energy in keeping the eggs warm.

my broody cochins always go pale and look out of condition when in their broody spells. Once they snap out of it in no time at all they are bright red and perky again.

Thanks all for your replies. Her food and water have gone down so I guess she must be eating and drinking a little. Looks really "ill" though and can't wait til she looks herself again. Hatch day is tomorrow or Wednesday so hoping all goes well!

They do lose a lot of condition while they are sitting on eggs. As soon as they have hatched she will be so busy teaching them how to eat and eating well herself that she will soon pick up.

 

I always make sure there is Apple Cider Vinegar in the water.
