get rid of 100 items

Recommended Posts

I know its not supposed to be rubbish but to help with my clear out I'm going to count non normal rubbish (stuff like sorted out broken toys etc) by the carrier bag full

1) breadmaker

2) feather pillow- chicken bedding

3) feather pillow0 chicken bedding

3) bag of rubbish from boys room

4) bag of rubbish from boys room

5) bag of rubbish from utility

I have so much carp in my house

Proud of the boys room

I have a big storage crate in there. I also have lots of containers round the house with things in that might be bits of games etc that need to be put back so I put them all into this crate. Well it had spilled over into two containers and I managed to sort it so its less than one crate again. I WILL get there

Gosh, I like the idea of cheapcycle, I'm not sure if there's a group near me. It sounds a bit easier than eBay.

5. A poster that was in the loft when I moved in, nearly 3 years ago ... and which I have never liked (why has it taken me so long! :oops: )

6. Old ammunition tin, given by BIL, intended to store seed packets in but it's not practical

I am moving very slowly, granted but as Lesley says, this thread is very inspiring!

8) This topic is what's making me tackle it, I'm so grateful, couldn't wait to throw out then post this morning!

Cathy, thanks for tip about listing individually rather than bagful to start. I thought about it, but I have a loooooong way to go before I make the slightest impact on this house. So, I'll work quickly to get my first 100, but make it more of a challenge to really make a difference to the mess here!

Bron, I think you're terriffic to tackle it now. My one box of unsorted toy boxes grew to about 6 boxes and I said I was doing it when DD1 started playgroup. 19 years ago. So, I know how hard it is, and I agree, count the rubbish out too, it's very satisfying. I love the expression non normal rubbish for not the daily stuff.

Lesley, you have to do an extra item item now you've ordered a book on Clutter! :wink::doh:

I looked at getting one but decided this topic was better. So, here goes;

Bin;

6/7. 2 broken Thermos flasks

8. Teapot :? ....with only half a spout!

9. Tom & Jerry 1970 mug....enormous chip on rim!

....house is full of piles of stuff...looks more untidy that before! :lol:

Same here, mine is just from around the house, not even the attic Bron. Years back LSH threw out :evil::twisted: a box or 2 of those unsorted boxes. He thought it was helpful (or was desperate) but of course, it made the rest impossible to sort. So, I'm coming back to it after many years, and a 4th child grown up meantime!

Progress today as I emptied DD2's room and had the carpet cleaned. I'll only put good things back, but of course it's slow, and LSH :roll: can only see the mess strewn everywhere else. :whistle::angel:

So, I'll come here for encouragement, I know I need to do it properly & slowly, not just heap it all back again, although it does look worse at the moment, and it will take ages. :oops:

Anyway, well done Cookiem. & Palmer07. Number 20 will brighten the day in the charity shop. :lol:

I filled a bin sack with bedroom floor rubbish today :oops: plus;

Charity;

52/55. 4 soft toys (400 to go :roll: )

56. Boxed set of unread books

Ok, my total is still a measly six items BUT this thread has spurred me on to Freecycle all these things, which have been hanging about for ages! (and they've all been collected today, hurrah).

I'm going to get the black bags out and get started tomorrow, I am very motivated to get my total up now.

Edited to add:

so far we have:

Couperwife

Kate

Olly

Carrie

Egluntine

Lesley

Bronze

Sheila

Palmer 07

Cookiemonster

Do you realise that if we each achieve our 100 target, that will be 1000 things thrown away, recycled or given to charity! :clap:

I am hoping that the Ann Summers items will remove the cemented on frown from our local charity shop helpers face........ :D And Couperwife....I had to go to the party as it was hosted by a friend and I didn`t want to be rude :angel: honest!!

37. Thirty six :shock: ringbinders and lever arch folders - Freecycled and being collected shortly :D

You don't know me very well then Sheila :lol: I'm hopeless at moving.......I can't pack early in case I need something.....pack at the last moment....and pack everything!!!!

I'll have another go with the childrens toys on Thursday, if I can stop Lauren and Jake playing with them :roll:

All the Freecycle stuff has been collected, I managed to get several people to take a lemon balm plant as well so only have about eight left! :roll:

7. Trouser suit, not worn in the last year

8. Blouse, still with price tags on :oops: as it never fitted

9. Various other clothing items, I feel it's cheating to list them all separately!

10. About ten CDs, used for back up photos before I got a hard disk storage thingy - bin

11. Handful of paperback books - going to be exchanged at the Book Exchange shop

12. Two mugs that I don't like so never use - charity bag

13. necklace that gave me a rash the only time I wore it - ditto

14. Set of tablemats, unopened, a present but I really loathe the design! charity bag

15. Plastic storage bag with broken zip - bin

16. Pair of jeans that I will not fit into again in my wildest dreams - charity

17. Spare bath mat, not used since I moved here - charity bag

This has also motivated me to finally get the loft ladder down and put away the Christmas things that got left out when I put everything else away (it was reaching the point when I could start to say 'it's not worth it as I'll need them out again soon'!), it took me all of 5 minutes to do but I've been avoiding it for six months. :oops:

58. Child mattress (to the dump :vom: 25 yrs of use!)

59. Another large board game (charity)

60. Broken laundry basket (I use this one plus a good one, but we'll all share the good one)

There's a brilliant book called 'Clutter's Last Stand' by Don Aslett that I recommend to anyone who struggles to throw stuff out. It transformed me from a hoarder to someone who actively enjoys filling a black bag!
