Is she broody?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I've had my three hybrids for a good few weeks now and i'm not sure if one of them is going broody or not

It's day three of her odd behaviour which is consisting of sitting on the nest a lot - she's coming out to eat and drink, has a wander around and isn't the least bit grumpy when I shove her off the nest. I'm just not sure if this is her going broody?

She's still laying as normal and doesn't seem to be preventing the other girls from gaining access so do I leave her for the time being or nip this behaviour in the bud by turfing her out :?

Advice greatly received

i'd leave her to it for a bit longer she may snap out of it. other definate signs include her plucking her feathers out just below her chest, a low sort of mumbled clucking sound, nest building and pinching every egg she can get and sitting on them. she may also turn your other girls out of the nest and utimatley stop laying.

if you think she is broody there are several methods you can use to stop her including dipping her bum into cold water several times a day, putting bricks in her nest box so that she cannot get comfy, plenty of ventlation under her nest area.

i'm sure other forum users will have other methods for stopping a broody.

i'm afraid i can't say how effective they are....i got some live eggs for my broody... that worked for beauty
