abwsco
Does anyone have one and if so which one. Have found my worktop on offer at Howdens for silly money so am wondering about spending the money saved on one. Not that we have a lot of waste anyway but thought it could be a handy gadget to have. Thanks
Geoid
I have one, its called the bin....(sorry - I just dont see the point of them)
Olly
I've got one, it's an Insinkerator . Never had one before, but this was fitted in the kitchen when I bought the house. I don't put a lot down there, but it does mean you can sweep crumbs etc into the sink without worrying about clogging it up! I compost all my vegetable waste (the stuff the chooks don't eat, anyway!) but I have sometimes used it to dispose of cooked food waste which might stink the bin out. I don't know how green they are because you have to run water all the time it's going, there was some debate on this a while ago in 'Green Thinking' but I can't find it now. If you've been squeezing lemons for a cake (or have one of those satsumas going all wrinkly in the bottom of the fruit bowl ) then it makes the kitchen smell lovely if you pop it down there! Would I have one again? yes probably, if the cost worked out. At least I have never had to take the trap off the sink to clean it, a job I did several times at the last house. Egluntyne
I seem to remember that they are quite heavy on electricity. We had one previously but rarely used it. Him Indoors was always murdering teaspoons in it. I compost most stuff nowadays.
abwsco
Thanks all. Perhaps it is a gadget I don't need
xScrunchee
Thanks all. Perhaps it is a gadget I don't need But, do you want it? I didn't need a Roomba but I got one. If you have the money for it and you would like to have it-what the heck, just go for it! We only live once afterall. However, if you can think of something more fun and exciting to spend your saving on-get that instead. Buy something that you would like and that will make you feel happy. (for a while at least) I think I'd get one just to stick lemons in to make the kitchen smell nice
abwsco
Jay, I want one the same as I am still lusting after a Roomba but I am having to use my egg money which I was saving up towards a cube, so am going to be sensible and not get one:(
xScrunchee
Ooo, a cube? Well that is something worth saving for!!!!!!!!! My Roomba has gone wrong three times in the past 12 months. It's being repaired again now and has been gone since Thursday! I wish I had saved for a cube instead
Old Speckled Hen
I used to have one of these but like Egluntine has found it was a magnet for teaspoons. Couldn't have one in present house as we are on a septic tank. If you have the cash to spare why don't you get a tap that produces boiling water. Now that's a kitchen gadget that I'd go for
Couperman
I read somewhere that they are not the greenest form of disposal as they load nutrients into the waste water system which then have to be tackled at the water treatment plant. I think they are better equipped to deal with them in the States than here. We just compost everything that will compost, in fact we have quite a few compost bins now, four at home and six at the allotment. I think I am getting a bit obsessed. Kev. Lewis
I aggree with others. We used to use ours all the time (use a wooden spoon ) but now we compost most of the things that would have gone in there. Ours has been broken for about a year and we don't know wether to replace/get it fixed or just remove it
