Jeniwren
Hi Everyone I'm the proud owner of 2 chickens and and eglu since 8am this morning. AND I'VE ALREADY GOT AN EGG - What clever girls. (Accused my husband of planting it for a laugh, but after investigations I discovered IT'S REAL) I have a few questions: The Miss Pepperpot is bullying the Gingernut Ranger - I'm sure it's just a sorting out who's boss thing - but how long will it last? Will they wake me up tomorrow morning, or will they sleep til I open the door? ... I think that's it... Thanks for reading Jeniwren
Redwing
Hiya Breathe deep, turn egg over and check for lion mark, if there isnt one...jump for joy! Congratulations The bullying will settle down and they will usually be quiet till the door is opened, just don't leave it too late

Hen Watch
Hi Jeniwren, Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new arrivals and congrats on getting an egg so quickly My lot stay in 'roost mode' until I open the eglu door. I aim to open it by 7.15am but sometimes at weekends it's 7.30am then I jump back into bed for another hour.
Gamebird
Hi Jeniwren, welcome to the forum. Yes, chickens do actually lay real eggs. There will be lots more where that came from.

teri
is it just my girls who run their beaks up and down the mesh on their coop door every morning until i open it?? they look like little convicts trying to escape!!! wait til you taste your new egg. you won't beleive how much nicer it really is. i took about ten away with me on my holiday but we ran out..due to a fry up every morning..i was on holiday, it's the law!!! i ended up BUYING some from the shop, i was shocked at how pale and small the yolk was. once you've eaten your own eggs you'll never go back to shop ones! Jeniwren
Thanks everyone - what a warm welcome. Day 2 and alls well. Had a clear out of the poo tray and found 2 soft shelled eggs in it - I read up on it and found that this happens when chickens are young - very weird!!! I've let them out of the eglu house and they're pecking away. Thanks for everyones comments and support (most people I've shown think I'm mad and weird!!!! What's they're problem, they won't be saying that when I'm giving them delicious fresh eggs!!!!) Jeniwren xxx
