Rotten Weather - well it is Scotland

Recommended Posts

I know the weather is lovely down south but it has rained here all week and the area the girls free range in is just a pile of mud, I keep gliding along the mud and expect a fall anytime soon. Question is, as ex batts who have been stuck inside all of their life will this really wet weather and muddy back yard affect their little feet. I think I would even prefer the freezing cold because at least the ground under foot would be solid for them. :anxious:

I tend to let them out unless it is torrential during the day, but if it is raining in the evening they get put in to the run so they are dry before bedtime, they dont half complain when they are put in the run before the allotted bedtime. Before chickens I never really took an interest in the weather :!:

Funnily enough mine are not speaking to me today. Isn't it funny how quickly you can 'read' them and get to know their little ways - I've not had them a week. 8)

The last few afternoons I have free ranged them from about 3pm (I go downstairs to work and keep an eye on them) til 7 or 8pm. I go out at 5pm on Thursday so can't let them out now as I'll never get to my gym class on time - it's finish work and run out the door. They will have to have a short outing today when I get in.

I just went out to check them as they sun is now out but it is very windy - they are doing the PP equivalent of a dog whining at a door to be let out.

It had been pouring down all morning - they were not happy as it was the first time they have experienced bad weather. They were fine in their run though although all 3 were sat looking very fed up under their bedroom. :(

Torrential rain most of the day here as well, brightening up now :D

My girls were let out inspite of the rain, they were already wet as the WIR roof is leaking badly :( . They took shelter under a shrub and dried out nicely in no time at all. At least this damp, warm weather brings out the midges which the girls are catching in the long grass by the edge of the field.

Well folks you are not alone. It's been absolutely throwing it down over here all week. Today is particularly bad 2 hour long storms followed by 15 mins of blazing sunshine!. We've been trying to clear out the old stable and turn it into a workshop. Don't think it's going to happen this week or any time soon at this rate.....

But the little troopers just loved the down pour we just had when I get them loose in the garden. They just stood in all 5 mins of monsoon and preened. :D

Vain like their mum.

Asda have just delivered some wonderful looking corn cobs. We'll have even more fun tomorrow.

Yea, utterly fed up :!: Was talking to our vet yesterday who is on a working holiday from Australia. She was saying it's warmer over there just now and it's their WINTER :!: She had been thinking of staying but having experienced one Scottish summer she's ready to go back :!: Can you blame her :?: May be we'll have a lovely autumn :wall:

Mine have been out today since 3pm and it's showered quite heavily off and on since then. They just carry on regardless - none of them seem at all bothered by any amount of rain.

Joy (my youngest @ 16weeks ish and a beauty of a Black Rock) has been pecking the door of the conservatory. I thought it was as she can see her reflection. But on closer inspection she is drinking the rain on it.

The only downside - they have turned their nose up at a nice juicy corn on the cob. I've even pulled a few niblets out to give them the idea - nothing - beaks in the air. :( I was so looking forward to them :P over it.
