What do you recommend for a brooder?

Recommended Posts

You can use anything really , just as long as it suits you.

An old fish tank, cardboard box, indoor rabbit hutch, plastic storage box, wooden box - just make sure it is warm and has a non-slip mat in the bottom to prevent splayed legs.

You'll also need a heat source, either a lamp or electric hen (or the farm use gas heaters)- I'd think a lamp would be better for a beginner :)

I use my old rats cage for the first few weeks with an electric brooder as seen here: http://www.pandtpoultry.co.uk/product/categoryid/3/productid/1031

Then they move out to my garage where I've got a large rabbit run that I hang a heat lamp over. I would prefer to carry on using the electric brooder but my garage is dark and dingy and I need the light from the heat lamp out there.
