Dianeuk
My hens are now 23 weeks old when can I expect them to start laying?
Tina C
Soon, but who knows. One of mine started a couple of weeks after arriving, the other took her time but is now producing them like they are going out of fashion (five in a row so far this week). It is an agonising wait but it will be worth it. Both of mine started flattening themselves for me a few days before they started laying so that is something to look out for. Lesley
It can be a bit later at this time of year. In high summer, they may start at 23 weeks but as the days become shorter then it will be a bit later. The flattening is always a good indicator. Well worth the wait

Some chickens take longer to mature i suppose.

Dianeuk
What exactly is meant by flattening?
Karen & co.
Hi Dianeuk, When you put your hand out to stroke a hen that is laying she will squat down and make herself ready for being 'approached ' by a male. one of mine does a little paddling her feet up and down too karen x
