Swine flu strikes!!!!!

Recommended Posts

This is probably not what you want to hear, but is my cautionary tale.

Take to your bed and do nothing, don't even try and do anything.

I had it 4 weeks ago, took to bed for a few days, then tried to get up and do a few bits and pieces (cooking, basic cleaning etc), and because I was weak and my immune system was compromised I picked up a secondary infection. This then lead to my heart racing and me being admitted to hospital.

I am still signed off work, and will be for at least another week, and I am still very weakened by it all. I find that even doing a few things leaves me exhausted.

My heart rate is still too high, but no longer dangerously so (when I was admitted to hospital I had a resting heart rate of 135-140 beats per minute, its now down to 105ish)

So PLEASE take it easy. I am a person who is always active and on the go, and I have found the whole experience very traumatic truthfully, as I have been unable to look after my elderly grandfather, keep the house in order, work, go to football etc etc.

Sending you hugs and hope you will be better soon.

you should take space chicks advice.

2 anyone who is worried. :(

Swine flu is just a normal type of flu. It can be got rid of easily. Dont think "ohh i am dying", because it can only kill if your immune system is busy with something life-threatening, like cancer, but even then it has to be pretty major. make sure you wash your hands regulary, and catch up on any information in the paper or on a leaflet. If you are worried cosult your GP.He will sort out anything, and you soon wont feel worried at all :D:dance::D:dance::D

Excellent advice Mini welly  And this from a 10 year old

Get well soon. My mum had swine flu but didn't know until she was nearly over it. I guess it hits some people harder than others. Are you taking Tamiflu? I've had normal flu 3 times in my adult life and each time has been atrocious. I ended up in hospital with bronchitis after one bout, mainly because i went back to work too soon. Make sure you take it easy and really get over it.

I agree wholeheartedly with all the good advice given. I had flu 2 years ago and I have never felt so rotten before or since. Being a very active person and NEVER being ill I got back into my normal routine too quickly, fighting every step. During one of my usual runs in the hills I broke down like an old horse and It was a year before I could say I was feeling "normal". So take it easy and let somebody else look after you and take the strain.

Oh .......... and get well soonest :D:D
