Guest
2 sheds and me went on one of Paul Peacock's courses today. Paul and Diana (his wife) are lovely and the course was really interesting. You learn what all the bits of the hive are, how to examine the bees, what to do and what not to do around the bees, what equipment you need to get started and much more that I can't remember but there are course notes to refer back to. If anyone wants them they're on this web site http://www.beetowns.com/The_Beehive.html There was a woman there from radio 4 too, so we might be on 'you and yours' next week, Paul will definitely be on talking about bee keeping so you might want to listen out for him, next weds at 12.00 radio 4. Some pics http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=139438&id=568396756&l=5ce63e2c8b just found this interesting article about Paul and the apiary in Wythenshawe park http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/manchester/hi/people_and_places/nature/newsid_8211000/8211594.stm
Lesley
Sounds like a good day this time! When will you get your bees? - will you be having a Beehaus?
Guest
well, first thing we need to do is read, read and read some more. Then we're going to see about getting some equipment and finally the bees. I'm not sure it's the right time of year to introduce bees so maybe we'll do it in the Spring, which gives us time to do lots of research and get the kit together. After the kill, pluck and gut course I felt very dubious about doing it ourselves, perhaps if we had more land then we would but this is something we can do in the back garden. We've got the spot picked out already p.s. we can't afford the beehaus and don't really have room for it so we're going with a trad type hive. Lesley
A good plan! I think I find it easier to kill, pluck and gut chickens than look after bees sometimes
Guest
shame we don't live closer in that case
