PurpleHen
I know this doesn't sound very helpful - but you'll thank me for it in the long-run.. ditch IE7, get Firefox instead.. Firefox rocks!!! Phil Couldn't agree more - I make everyone at work use it (I'm the IT manager - supposedly.... )
PurpleHen
yes - just type firefox into google - it's a quick download (unlike IE7 - which is massive) and it doesn't even require a reboot.. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ Phil Or go to www.getfirefox.com - where you just click the button that says "download firefox free"..... easy peasy..... gooner.girl
Yeah we use firefox and internet explorer (hubbys a bit of a computer geek - he writes software for radiotherapy equipment) Firefox is good if you have a gmail email account. We are apparantly getting a free copy of 'windows vista ultimate' (whatever that is) before it comes out in the shops in January - he tested it for them or something and they have given him a free copy worth nearly £400 - do you think i could sell it and buy an eglu? Can't imagine what difference it will make to our pc and its so expensive it must have some sell on value.... or is that illegal?
Egluntyne
I'm using Firefox at the mo. Much less clutter at the top of the screen which I like and my impression is that it is quicker than IE7. One thing surprised me though.....when I typed in my password to get on this site, instead of asterisks, I could read it. Perhaps its just an early blip. Nicola H
I am having a go at using it too instead of IE7, but it did use asterisks for my password maybe there is a setting for this............Not too sure. I am trying to work out how you use the tab setting on bookmarks
Egluntyne
I notice it underlines dodgy spellings....which in my case is very useful!

Perhaps its just an early blip. that's interesting - that's never happened to me.. I'm not sure why that should happen - in fact, it shouldn't happen!! I don't type my password in for this site because I use Roboform - but it always appears as asterix's when it is filled in... Mmmmm... I'll think about it... does it happen on other sites too or just this one? have you tried the tab-browsing yet? If you hold ctrl and click on a link or on a bookmark (or right-click and select "open in new tab") the new page opens in a tab - so you can have several pages open at once - and flit between them... it's a great feature! One Man Banned
Well I have just downloaded Firefox as I am not sure about IE7 - Mark at work highly recommended Firefox I will give it a few weeks and see how I get on with it - it does seem a lot faster than IE so that's a start. Mark also said that it stops alot of the "Page cannot be displayed" that you get with IE as is common with most Microsoft things the slightest thing makes it go off screaming in a hissy fit! Time will tell! A xx

Time will tell! A xx Indeed - it is faster - and less hissy-fitty!! You can also change its "skin" - and get yourself a new set of buttons and colour schemes. If enough Forum people take on Firefox - maybe one day I'll design an Omlet "skin" for firefox - we can have chickeny buttons and everything! (might take me a while though - because I'm a slow learner with this kind of stuff!) Phil

Guest
How odd...One Man Banned's seems the same as usual, as does mine, and yours is not moving at all Nicola H...... that's because I made the One Man Banned avatar and yours - and I made them with extreme care and precision - not to mention GREAT skill - so that they work equally across different browsers Phil

Guest
I assume you are all Broadband users - so does anyone still dial-up & use Firefox or is it specifically for those lucky enough to be able to get Broadband? you can use dial-up with any browser - it will work better with Firefox because Firefox is faster (not "bloatware"!) there are others - Opera being the other famous alternative - but it's not as good as Firefox with dialup - it would take you several days to download IE7. It will still take quite a while to download Firefox - but no time in comparison with IE7 the firefox download is only 5.6MB the IE7 download is three times as big.. Egluntyne
You're right about Firefox, Revnev...it's very good. I use it all the time now. Still have lots to learn about it though. Am also enjoying the feeling of putting two imaginary fingers up at Bill Gates.
