Tweety
Molly, one of my ex batts, has a problem with her crop. It is not functioning properly but, although it is enlarged, it is not impacted or sour. She is eating and drinking small amounts, and doesn't appear to be suffering, and I am wondering if there is anything I can give her to help. I have been to the vet with her - he confirms that the crop is not impacted or sour, and could only offer surgical intervention, which I would rather not put her through. I have got some white maggots - should I give her some? Does anyone have any other ideas, please? Is it ok for my other hens to eat the maggots too? Egluntyne
It is OK for the others to eat the maggots. They are a good source of protein and the hems will wolf them down. She might be better off on mash rather than pellets. Someone's vet recommended this recently for a hen with similar difficulties.
Tweety
Thanks Egluntine, that's a very good idea - I will get some mash. I only changed them over to pellets a few weeks ago, as my supplier couldn't get any ex batt crumbs at the time- I hope this hasn't caused her problem. sandyhas3chucks
citricidal in the water might also help her.
