Treekeeper
They are all still green. Does anyone know how to get them to go red when there's no sunshine?????
sjp
yes first take out the growing tip then remove all but the top 3 or 4 leaves ,stop feeding them but keep watering them this makes the plants think there dying so they start the ripening process also remove any trusses that only have flowers on or very small toms second way is to put the green toms or slightly ripe in a brown paper bag or cardboard box in a dark cupboard for a week or two this method they are not very tastey but they do for cooking it's how shop brought toms are ripend hence why they are tasteless you don't need sunlight to ripen toms
chickencam
When were they planted? They need quite a long season to grow to full size and ripen. I agree with the advice to take the top growing tips out of any shoots, and hopefully with the better weather for the next week or so they will begin to ripen. Are they indoor or outdoor? If they are outdoor keep a close eye out for blight and if you see brown patches on the leaves that die back quickly take as many green tomatoes off as you can because they will rot very quickly. Milly
I had to pick a pile of green tomatoes tonight as they seem to be getting blight and I thought it was better to get them green than not at all. But brown paper bags seem to be in short supply these days - so I might try the cardboard box idea. Or cook them green for a change.
