chickencam
We were given a little book by the same organisation in return for filling in a questionaire and a pledge to reduce waste, at the Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival earlier this year
The Dogmother
No waste in this house either Liz
Cinnamon
Funny - I didn't think we had much waste in this house until we were given a counter top waste food bin as part of the new waste disposal scheme our council started. It has suprised me just how much we do chuck away. Obviously the hens do their bit,but all the compot heaps & bins are now full, so for example this week, I have had to bag up a whole heap of spent Crabapple pulp from my jelly making & 5 large Artichokes worth of nibbled leafs At least its now being disposed of responsibly by my council who are composting everything Any waste really bothers me,so I a big fan of this council scheme & any sites like this one that help you to use up every last s"Ooops, word censored!". The Dogmother
Good for you Sarah. What little food waste we have is shared between the hens and wormery. When I make jellies, I sieve the pulp before netting it. The 'dead' pulp in the net goes into fairy cakes or sponges.
Cinnamon
Ooooo - hadn't thought of that But then again I rarely make cakes
The Dogmother
You shock me! Mix some sugar in thei the fruit pulp and then put a dob of it in the middle of the sponge mixture when making fairy cakes, or marble it into a sponge mixture. Very tasty. Cinnamon
Sponge cakes just aren't our thing really. A plate of Flapjack or Christmas cake doesn't last 5 minutes though! I just don't have a sweet tooth.
The Dogmother
Neither do I, but cake is another matter entirely!
Lesley
I always cook the cores as well when I make apple jelly so I can't do that but then we do have the pigs and they love the apple mush. I just made a sort of Bread and Butter pudding with a dry Cardamom Cake - tastes divine. I went off to look at that site this morning - and forgot to come back here
The Dogmother
I always cook the cores as well when I make apple jelly so I can't do that I use the cores too, but I sieve it before using the jelly net, so I just use the lovely fine pulp from the net. Cores and co"Ooops, word censored!"r stuff goes to the chooks.
