Advice on a poorly girl

Recommended Posts

I'm looking after a neighbour's chickens and one little girl (a speckled sussex about 20 weeks) is rather poorly. A week ago, before I took over, she was found laying in the run. After a night in doors with lots of TLC she was back on her feet, the vet didn't know what was the matter. She's still not very steady on her feet and perfers to sit down when eating. She hasn't lost her appetite and is eating and drinking well but I am worried about her. If she was human I'd say she'd had too much to drink. She also doesn't appear to be holding her wings properly. Does anyone have any idea what could be the matter. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Lis

It's difficult but maybe she has hurt a leg and that is why she doesn't stand? She would be using her wings to balance.

You would think a vet though would have spooted that.

If it were I guess rest, and some extra calcium.

I expect Egluntine would ask if she has been wormed, but she is very young, so I don't know if that would apply.

As she is eating & drinking that is good,.

I am also wondering if there is an egg on the way or stuck, as I know this can press on a nerve & make them wobbly.

Again think a vet would know!

HOWEVER I have exbats and no experience of youngsters and what might happen, so am just flating some ideas as I saw there was only one reply. Hopefully one of our "more experienced chookers will see this & offer some advice.

keep her omfortable.

ex bats with broken all sorts are given lovely big comfy straw beds to nestle in.

good luck
