Vix_Chicks
Hello all, As Omlet always comes up trumps for me, i'm hoping that somebody ay be able to help me please. I'm getting married next year and have myself 4 bridesmaid (lots of old girlie school friends!!) However, having looked around all the wedding boutiques, most places want around £200 for a bridesmaid dress!! I was pondering the thought of having their dresses made instead. But being new to the Hertfordshire area, do not know of any good seamstresses. Personal recommendations are always better than the yellow pages, please does anybody know of any?? Many thanks
ubereglu
I'm not sure of any in your area, but good luck! My sister made her bridesmaid dresses, (One each, for me and my other sister). One of the first things you need to do is work out what style of dress you'd like, buy a pattern and fabrics etc. Simplicity patterns are good as they tend to be fairly simple. Karen & co.
It could be worth you just asking in the fabric shop as they may have knowledge of seamstresses in your area I made the bridesmaids dresses for my own wedding and for my sister when she got married, shame we don't live a little closer, but have you thought of making your own? some of the simple patterns can look stunning Karen x
Vix_Chicks
Thank you to you both! I would love to be able to make my own, but sadly don't think I have the confidence to! I remember my school project where I had to make an oven glove...it didn't fit my hand!!! lol. Can only lead to disaster!! That is a good idea to ask in the local fabric shop. There must be somebody out there that could make them for me.... the search continues x
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Christmas is coming - how about nabbing some cheaper lovely glam party dresses? Bhs, M&S, Monsoon and a handful of other high street places have bridalwear now too.
Redwing
Monsoon wedding wear is so beautiful and expensive enough to be 'posh' without being prohibitive
Lesley
The Monsoon Outlet store at Bicester Village had bridesmaid dresses as well as their usual posh frocks - is there an outlet place near you?, not necessarily for Monsoon, but any store selling dresses. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Now wedding season has finished, you may be able to get clearance bargains in the boutiques. I saw some going for £15 recently, down from £200.
Vix_Chicks
Wow, thank you everybody for your helpful tips and advice!!! Going to have to get organised and start looking around!! There are a couple of outlet shops I could try, thanks
prudance
Do try everyone's top tips and forget about the dressmaker. Unless you find someone just starting up or a student, you're extremely unlikely to find one who could do better than £200 a dress unless you want cheap fabric and very little by way of emellishments. Dressmaking is too labour intensive.
