Bridesmaid dresses!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

As Omlet always comes up trumps for me, i'm hoping that somebody ay be able to help me please.

I'm getting married next year  and have myself 4 bridesmaid (lots of old girlie school friends!!)

However, having looked around all the wedding boutiques, most places want around £200 for a bridesmaid dress!! :(

I was pondering the thought of having their dresses made instead. :? But being new to the Hertfordshire area, do not know of any good seamstresses.

Personal recommendations are always better than the yellow pages, please does anybody know of any??

Many thanks :D

I'm not sure of any in your area, but good luck! My sister made her bridesmaid dresses, (One each, for me and my other sister). One of the first things you need to do is work out what style of dress you'd like, buy a pattern and fabrics etc. Simplicity patterns are good as they tend to be fairly simple. :D

It could be worth you just asking in the fabric shop as they may have knowledge of seamstresses in your area :D

I made the bridesmaids dresses for my own wedding and for my sister when she got married, shame we don't live a little closer, but have you thought of making your own? some of the simple patterns can look stunning :D

Thank you to you both! I would love to be able to make my own, but sadly don't think I have the confidence to! I remember my school project where I had to make an oven glove...it didn't fit my hand!!! :? lol. Can only lead to disaster!!

That is a good idea to ask in the local fabric shop. There must be somebody out there that could make them for me.... the search continues x

Do try everyone's top tips and forget about the dressmaker. Unless you find someone just starting up or a student, you're extremely unlikely to find one who could do better than £200 a dress unless you want cheap fabric and very little by way of emellishments. Dressmaking is too labour intensive.
