Griffin
Here's Boris a few weeks ago with Georgia If we manage to keep his noise levels to a minimum I'll buy him some Orp ladies after Christmas

ClaireG
There were some gorgeous looking cockerels at Salisbury Auction on Saturday. I was very nearly tempted!

Is it the early morning crowing that worries you or the noise during the day? I'm sure we'll all help come up with ideas if you really want to keep them and you'll never know till you try
xScrunchee
Just wanted to set the record straight about something Teri's post was called- "help needed or roy will have to go" NOT 'Roy needs a home'!! So, Teri was looking for ways to enable her to keep Roy, she was no way implying that she was looking to rehome him. Quite the opposite in fact. I must admit, I didn't think for one second that she was looking for a new home for him. I replied to her original post explaining how we manage to keep Kev as I could clearly see that she wants to keep Roy. No idea what went wrong there and why the post was removed considering there was no speak of getting rid of him in that sense nor was it titled 'Roy needs a home' Oh well, just wanted to mention that
Sheilaz
Just wanted to set the record straight about something Teri's post was called- "help needed or roy will have to go" a home'!! This is a personal post, not from the mod.team, as I'd like to set the record straight. Every week we do have to remove at least half a dozen topics which because of talk about hatchings/what to do about the noise/might have to go/neighbours, would inevitably lead to rehoming suggestions. In this context, although Teri wanted a solution for keeping him, the title and text were emotive and, if left, would allow other less well intentioned members to post similarly. There has to be one rule for all. Also, despite the intention, there was already an enqury, and at that stage I removed the topic for consideration. I courteously posted to say that it was removed for consideration, so no one would be looking for it, and that I'd report back later. Then, I left it for team discussion & told mods I'd be back later in the evening. At that stage, I was wondering about just editing Teri's post, but it would need heavy pruning, & thought it might be more polite, & easier, for her to post again just about tips such as Jay offered. Whilst thinking of the best option I was getting late to go out. I was back within 3 hours, so was surprised later to see that questioning pms had been sent to Mods within 40 mins, despite my post saying I'd report back. This topic could not stay as it was. I'm going to see if I can edit & replace it, although ideally I would ask Teri first, which I would have done if given time!

Think the main thing is though that we've only 10 chickens including the two chicks so not sure how that would work with two cockerels given the breeds they are. Also, would they get on together although I have read as they've been brought up together there could be more of a chance. One thing on our side though is that at least winter is coming up so there's less daylight. Both boys have been on my knees asleep together today although one did poo down my leg At least I had jeans on-lol

My apologies for sending a message to a mod asking what was going on when you did indeed leave a courteous message explaining that it was removed for consideration and that you'd report back later. I'm just nosey and impatient I guess *(I only sent one questioning pm-honest ) Maybe because I read Teri's post and took it for what it meant-I failed to realise that perhaps other people would see it as an open invitation to post cockerel rehoming threads. Glad the situation is now resolved and I see Teri has a new thread

You might be lucky with regards to them getting on with eachother. I know that some people keep more than one very successfully so fingers crossed. The noise during the day could be a problem with 2 though as one might set the other one off therefore the crowing would be more frequent maybe Not sure how 8 hens between two cockerels would work out neither Any chance of keeping just one?? It would probaly be more managable I know that any noise at any time of the day has to be investigated if someone complains but I would definitely argue my case on that one. smokiechicken1969
Just caught up.. Firstly appologies if i have fallen foul of mentioning cockerels in the wrong context as i have had a problem with a neigbour complaining of my bird. its been resolved in my favour now which is great but i have to say the support i have got from omlet users has been fantastic. i find omlet to be not only a fabulous source of information but also a very friendly and supportive community. so now we know its ok to have general cockerel chat thats brilliant as i love to hear what kevin has been up to. have we had a pic of him yet? ive now seen a photo of the 'other' boris. hes a stunner too, and what a beautiful little girl heres a picture of my own little crower, hes also boris and is a bantam but not sure what kind? anyone know? the suprised expression on his face is the same expression he wears all day. i know there are people on here that keep more than one cockerel together and they get on ok and others that have had probelms. are you just going to see what happens? as for your neighbour.... if you really wanted to go to the effort and expense you could sound proof as much as possible and try to black out every available bit of light. it would certainly help. has your neighbour actually complained yet? and have the council written to you? sorry for so many questions, just a bit confused as looks like your original post was taken off, so just trying to get the jist x Edited September 22, 2009 by Guest
Daphne
I think he looks really lovely. I am very taken with black birds. He looks like a wyandotte but he should have yellow legs so maybe a wyandotte cross something?
abwsco
Another lovely cockerel Let all of our tribe out tonight so they could vandalise the garden some more and I half knelt down to stroke our CBxWels and he jumped straight up onto my knee and sat down
