crack in beak

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to treat a crack in a beak? Have just got a new chicken and she has a crack at the top of her beak.on one side only but does look quite deep.

I didnt know if I should just leave it and will it grow out or treat it with something, she doesnt appear to be troubled with it and she eats and drinks fine. She wont be laying as we have only had her a few days so can't use that as a guide. She was with a cockrel and has a few feathers missing as he was rather persistant before we had her.

Other than scaly legs which have been treated and will not look much better until the scales have come off she is a rather attractive bird!

Glad of any information

Thanks for that I wondered if it could be glued its a crack from side to side close to her head not the tip, shes a cream crested leg bar and seems to like strutting her stuff, our other two were most unimpressed when she arrived and there was much clucking and ruffling of feathers on both sides of the fence. We have also got a OEG wheaten bantam ( Ginger) crossed with an unknown! Who is still a chick but is mothered by the leg bar named Raisin.

We sadly lost one of our orginal three who had never been the biggest but who was dearly loved by your son who had spent ages sitting in the garden with her. He chose the bantam because she was small like his chicken Brownie.

She just died very suddenly last week, no symptoms more than her normal quieter than the other two. We did always think there was something a bit different about her though and just when I would be about to call the vet she would perk up and run around escaping from the run and dig up the flower borders. No flu symptons or anything vet seemed unsurprised - just one of those mysteries I suppose.
