We have standard eglu and run going horizontally accross the top of the garden. There is no room to extend east to west. However... we have an equal amount of room either side of the eglu which can be utilised. Having spoken to omlet it was disappointing to find that they do not make 'L' or 'C' shaped extensions which would enable a run extension to go back on itself in any available space.

My question is... has anybody cut into the side of their existing run, added a join and then made another run alongside their existing run? If you have,, what did you use? Would it have to be an exisitng omlet extensions to make the middle join and then further omlet extensions for the parallel run? The effect we are trying to make is like an 'H' block shape, not that it is a prison or anything!! This would give the girls double the legroom whislt utilising the space we have to house side of the eglu and run. I am sure it can be done, just not sure about the best (and most cost efficient) way to go about it.

All suggestions welcome.

Palmer07 did cut into the side of their cube run to make a door, so it has been done, but not with an eglu, and not attaching another run.

Could you get some weldmesh and make your own L shape and then add an extension on the end, someone else made their own convertor and extension, but it might take a bit of work

I thought you could maybe cut a hole into the side, and place a run next to the hole, and then use weldmesh over the top to cover the gap? :)

Is it not an option to turn the eglu 90 degrees, so it faces down the garden? :D

I'm thinking outloud here, so forgive me if it goes a little wonky

How about you purchase an appropriate quantity of weldmesh, 1in x 3in to match the eglu run, take the original run apart & slot the WM in between the two sides as an extended roof, then add another piece of WM to seal the two ends, fitting the door in and you could also add another door at the eglu end, also using WM...............It may need some kind of support in the middle.........

Can anyone else visualise this or am I on another planet as usual...........

In my opinion, I wouldn't do the C shaped extension idea, I could see chooks getting lost & panicking, also if you had to crawl in to remove a sick chook for example it would be a total nightmare...coming from someone who has had to crawl into a standard run to nurse a poorly girl & it's not en easy nor over pleasant experience.

The other alternative is a WIR (walk in run) built to fit your space and would give the girlies space above as well as to the side...have a look at the WIR and chicken run stickies at the top of this section

Hope this helps :D !!
