moulin
Millie has started to occasionally lay an egg without any shell - I'd though that was what was happening (goo in the nesting box) but today she'd laid on the roosting bars of the eglu so it's fallen underneath and it's a perfect egg but without a shell on just as if you'd cracked it onto a plate! Any ideas please anyone. I feed them on the layers pellets with everything included but do give them extra grit as well. Thank you xx
stoice
I've bought some limestone flour from ebay (Calcium supplement for tortoises) and put a teaspoon in their mash every now and again to help them get more calcium for their shells. A little cod liver oil also helps them absorb calcium so i add a little of that too. You also try some zolcal D in their water for the same reason. Of course it may just be a blip if she's a young bird not long laying. Hope this helps
WarrensWorld
You could cook the egg shells in the bottom of the oven for 40 minutes, or while doing some baking. Then crush them up fine in a mortar and pestle and mix with the layers mash. We use a level dessert spoonful for our four chooks. It's a lot cheaper and we think better for them. The only problem is the shells are a lot thicker than shop bought egg. PS make sure the egg shells are empty..............
