glucosamine.

Recommended Posts

Glucosamine is as effective as anti-inflammatory medication in clinical trials, so is definitely worth considering if you have osteoarthritis or aches and pains due to over-use (like I have in my skiers knees).

Some people think it is fantastic, but others do have problems with it, usually indigestion, flatulence or other digestive problems. The problem is that if a medication is effective it usually also has side-effects and this is not limited to conventional medications but is true of alternative therapies too.

Personally I cannot tolerate it - I get much less problems from taking anti-inflammatory medication. Other people are completely the opposite. It is a case of try it and see.

Cheers!

The clinical trials in which it was found to have a positive effect used a minimum dose of 1500mg daily. I tried it for 4 months and found no effect at all.

Re chondroitin which others have mentioned, be aware that it comes from sharks many of which are now endangered species, so check labels carefully if you are concerned about the ingredients being obtained in this way.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will continue taking it and fortunately Seven seas is on offer at my local tesco. Cod liver oil really helped our dog but gives me indigestion, so far so good with the glucosamine. If you are vegetarian I understand there is a version made from corn rather than shellfish. Thanks again for all the helpful comments.
