Bedtime bad tonight

Recommended Posts

as we've put together the (cube purple) so have shut up the coop. Given that my CLB and Vorwerk poop their pants when you so much as look at them it wasn't much fun :( We tried the torch method but that didn't work and we had to resort to catching each chicken and stuffing them through the door. The CLB was trying to fly over their 8ft high area to get into the garden and the Vorwerk went into mega alarm mode setting the chicks off into a panic as well. Just hope tomorrow night is better :?

Hi Anne

Sorry to hear that you have had a bad first night with your new (cube purple)

If it is any help I had exactly the same problems with my CLB when she moved into the cube.....she was literally climbing the walls of the WIR.

The next night I let her go to bed in her normal house ( (green eglu) ) and then popped her into the cube once she had been snoozing for a few hours. I did this for four days and on day five she took herself to bed in the cube :D

Not sure if this is feesable for you but an idea.

Em

Em, hadn't thought of that so will give it a go tomorrow if she's still pacing to get in the coop.

Plum, I know I enjoyed my Indian take away when we'd eventually got them in :)

Debs, good to hear that Ace got the hang of it as well. How does she manage the ladder? Thta's another thing as well of course -lol

We've also not helped the matter as the cube is in a different place to the coop and you know how they get confused if you even move it two inches-lol

Debs, I remember now about your ladder.

I didn't realise how quickly it had gone dark so was later going out than I intended  I'd to remove two chickens from the chicks rabbit hutch and also get one out from their section of the WIR, so only had to stuff three through the cube door tonight! Progress-lol

Oh, and one of our rare egg laying chickens christened the cube nest box today as well :)

Well done that egg-laying chicken . I'm feeding a lot of freeloaders too, despite leaving the box of paxo on show

My ex-batts got the hang of their cubes very quickly, though I eventually made a couple of ladders out of chipboard (cut to size @ B&Q) and dowling, which they seem to find much easier than the originals, but oh the squawking initially when I replaced (pink eglu) with (cube red). "Where's our bed? Where's our bed!". Good job they soon got over it!
