jackthelad
My little kids I mean chicks went out for the first time around the garden on Saturday after their first week of living with us. They seemed to love it following me around until I tried to pick them up or stroke them then they were off!! The cats were glued to every move as though they were eyeing up their next meal! Can I ask how do I get them back into their run if I have to nip out during the day? I am guessing this is the treat tin theory but how do I start? what do I do? How long will it take? Don't want to upset them by chasing them round to get them in and they could stay out longer at a weekend if I could round them up if I needed to go out. Here are some pics of chicks n cats! sjp
you need to rattle the treat tub then give them the treat not to much then rattle the tub as they eat do this every time they get treats until they come running when you rattle the tub then to get them in all you need to due is throw some of the treat in through the door when you've got the by it.all this depends on how cleaver they are and on how cheap they are to bribe my hybrids one picked it up within a day the other took a month the 3 pure breeds took 3 months before they whould go in with out me herding them in then it take more wheat than the hybrids to bribe them
JanTheDiver
Mine picked the treat thing up within a day too. But do ensure you put the lid on the treat tub when you don't want them to have any more. My Dark Sussex (Tikka) has learnt to jump up and knock it out of my hand She knows it goes all over the floor and gets more. This would be why she is top chick I suppose
Sammy
If mine are being receptive I can get away without the treats and just rattle their feeder and they come running. Failing that a few mealworms or corn thrown into their run makes them run like the clappers and for those not willing to budge they seem to respond for some reason to a grey broom handle in my hand - I don't have to do anything with it, just hold it out slightly and guide them to the their run and in they walk. Strange because I have a green broom which they ignore, only seems to be the grey one

lisaroo2
When we want to get our girls back in the run it all feels abit 'one man and his dog-ish' trying to round them in and then keeping the door open just enough so that daisy can get in but Maisie can't. The joke of it is that we score ourselves as well, 9 out of 10 means that it wasn't a clean and they didn't all go in at the same time. Beautiful girls BTW!!
