alij
My lovely other half has said that, if I want, I can order another cube to go with my pink cube which I got in August. Now do I or is that just plain greedy. These are my girls...all around 20 weeks old...who I am sure are missing having new neighbours this is Victoria, Orpington, not sure what colour Emily Edna, pekin bantam. There's also Buttercup a lemon cuckoo and Jemima a lavender Margot, one of 3 transylvanian naked necks and finally my lovely surprise birthday present Turkish Now, do I add to the family or not...decisions, decisions...but the breeder has some nice salmon faverolles
Space Chick
I suppose the question is do you have room for another cube, or an alternative is to get a WIR

Cooks
These are my almost 25 week Orpie girls blue/buff mix, I hope that might help you with your colouring as they do look like they might be the same. Well Emily. Edited October 16, 2009 by Guest
Redwing
Are you sure Victoria is not a Victor? Emily looks a bit boy-ish too - sorry to cast doubt......
alij
Oh no...do you think they might be he/shes'. I must admit their behaviour is quite on the macho side and not the nice gentle things I was led to believe they would be. Silly question probably, but how to tell whether they are male or female. stoice
Are you sure Victoria is not a Victor? Emily looks a bit boy-ish too - sorry to cast doubt...... I was thinking that. Victor(ia)'s tail feathers seem to be curling over and she has an upright stance (Not to mention cockerel colouring) No expert though. Any sign of spurs on their legs? Are their combs and wattles further on thatn the other girls in the flock of the same age? I think a way of checking is the shape of the neck feathers but i can't find the thread to illustrate this. A cockle doodle doo one morning will definitely leave you in no doubt! This page show some orpingtons - Victor(ia) looks a little more like the partridge cockerel than the hen.... clicky thingy
alij
I've just emailed a pic of Victoria to the breeder to see what he says. They do both act a bit blokey and front up to each other when they first free range, with neck feathers stuck out. They are my only 2 Orpingtons so I haven't anything to compare them with. Be just my luck to buy 2 blokey birds
Cooks
I have to say I did agree they looked like boys but I didn't want to voice it so I posted the picture of my girls for comparison.
alij
Well everyone...my Victoria and Emily are definitely Victor and Ernest, not just rather blokey birds. They have to go back to the breeder tomorrow, as I can't keep 1 cockerel let alone 2 and they will be missed soooooo much He was really apologetic but does say that Victor could have a good show career ahead. He's going to show me his current stock to replace to two boys. I'll let you know how I get on and thanks for your advice, without which things could have come to a nasty end
Laura & CTB
Gosh that's really bad luck and I'm so sorry they turned out to be guys instead of girls Sounds like they may be destined for fame though and you will be able to give two new girls a lovely home. It's just as well we have clever bods on here who know about these things - me I know one end of a chicken from the other but that's just about it! alij
It is bad luck....and there was I rattling my rather lovely egg basket at them, all to no avail. Apparently they both carry the chocolate gene so I'm hoping for a couple of their chicks, at a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge discount, when they are old enough to to the deed. I'm like you and know nothing about them, although learning fast. He does has some lovely cochins and faverolles available at the minute. At least now I can tell everyone in the village why I don't have any eggs
