Angry - Egg 'Mis-labelling'

Recommended Posts

My FIL often boasts about the wonderful free range eggs sold in his local independant fruit and veg shop, they are XL and very cheap apparently

Well FIL visited us last week and gave us lots of empty boxes from said eggs

The box is printed 'eggs from caged hens' but the farms own little ID and best before label fits EXACTLY over the words 'from caged' and in 9 out of the 12 boxes the label obstructs those two words completely and in two other boxes partially, only on one box can you clearly see the words

FIL obviously did not spot the caged bit and I wonder how many others havent, FIL was sure they were free range so when I visit next I will check what sign the shop has on the display

I'm really angry and am going to look in to who I report this to grrrrr!

maybe they just used the wrong boxes? You could check the code on the actual eggs to make sure they aren't free range?

but, i worked in a battery farm that also did packing for other farms (some of which were free range) and they used to 'launder ' some of their own eggs and pack them as free range if any of the FR had broken in transit..

Good grief - am quite shocked by that... do wonder if they're just reusing boxes tho', we onyl sell eggs at work and reuse boxes that others have given us, although we don't claim ours to be free range as the girls are in the WIR most of the day (although they do get a run round the garden every evening is we get home in time)

We know a couple of people who won't eat our girls' eggs either - they don't look "real" apparently

My uncle thinks my aunties free range eggs are too fresh and he doesn't like the taste. Wierd!

I am sure that our next door neighbours who are really good friends feel the same too. They are really food wimps and are 'allergic' to everything. We gave them a few in the early days and have offered them more but they have always 'just bought some'

That whole labelling thing is a real shocker and very underhand.
