petty neighbour

Yes it's still going on unfortunately. It's quite worrying but as it seems to be more regular enough is enough though. DD and OH couldn't even sit on the swing chair without being snarled at during those nice days - the chickens weren't even near that side of the garden either. I haven't been working on the front garden because they always seem to go walkies when I am outside - it isn't muzzled and sometimes it runs loose. Otherwise it is on one of those bungee strings - and allowed to run where it likes (but it is on a lead, yeah right). It doesn't walk to heel. Thankfully we have another dog in the close which is much nicer and well trained so while I am wary of dogs, there are a lot more responsible people to remind you that not all dogs are the same.

It wasn't the dog's fault she said - she herself had a beautiful German Shepherd - and didn't want the dog to be put down because of the owners ignorance. She since has died from cancer sadly, and after a year of next door collecting their mail from the sorting office, normal service has been resumed (unless it attacks the next postie).

It's always amazed me what people will put up with and how blind they are to their pets' transgressions.

When I was working I had a lovely family who were completely ruled by their very aggressive Bengal. It used to like to sit on the aga and wouldn't let anybody near it so the family had to eat out

It also used to ambush the husband on the stairs.

They were absolutely deaf to any entreaties from me :wall: It was put on prozac in the end but was still very unpredictable.

Many years ago a lady used to bring her Afghan to the surgery and it was really evil. We were all frightened of it and she had no control at all. One night I got a screaming phone call to say she was trapped in the kitchen on a work top with the dog growling at her from the floor and could I come and sedate it.:doh:

There's nowt as queer as folk!!!

Well that wouldn't happen in our house - more a case of get out of my kitchen - no Bengy is coming between my and my cooking and of course food! As for the Afghan - that would be pounced on, half nelsoned and pinioned on it's back on the floor to show it who's the boss. I am such a dragon.

I think I would settle for a picky sign, although any altercation is always unpleasant. Go for the fence and pooh to the horrible little man.

My parents had a tortie cat who was always a bit flighty, but when her older companion cat died, thought that she should hold the alpha position in the household. She set about trying to put my Mum in the bottom slot and would wait for her on the stairs, attacking her legs if she tried to get past. She also took to biting legs if she wanted food, rather than miaowing and parading around as she had previously done. A few lacerations later and a lot of ruined pairs of tights, Mum had enough and consulted the vet.

What Mum hadn't realised was that by showing her fear of the aggressive behaviour she was submitting and so reinforcing it. She used to wait to get tights on until she was downstairs, going down in thick tracksuit bottoms to protect her legs and staring the cat down as she passed. She also changed the way she was fed, not leaving food down all the time but giving it when she was ready rather than on demand from the cat. Smudge soon gave up and became more passive. They had her for another five years.

Everyone including Smudge was much happier as a result (and my Mum saved a fortune on tights!).

I am sorry to hear what you are going through with your neighbour, some people are just cruel and unkind and strive to make other peoples life a misery in any which way they can

regarding boundaries I was surprised to be told off our solicitor when buying this house that we are not responsible for maintaining any boundary at the rear of our property. Now this is all well and good but if you (meaning me) need a fence put up because you have dogs and dont want them running around peoples gardens and the neighbour says they cannot afford to pay for a fence you (meaning me again  ) are really going to have to put one up yourself, therefore we=now have a fence that is ours which is on a boundary that is not ours..  good job we all get on well isn't it.

nothing to do with bounderies but we had some work done in our house last year & had a skip delivered, our neighbour, who is a real 'Mrs Bouquet' if you know what I mean ,sent her son round to see if we had any room in it. Luckily the builder heard him shout 'Mom theres loads of room in here, shall I put all Dads empty plaster bags in" my builder heard this & ran out just as nextdoors son & hubby were about to fill our skip with their rubbish!! cheek! so very red faced she went into the house & avoided me for the next week.

thats terrible! but doesnt suprise me in the slightest, our garden was the communal fly tip when we moved in as theres no fences up, as soon as we moved in and started adding to it from the house tho the problem got worse with people just chucking their own stuff in to the melee!

I noticed last night (i leave when its dark and get home when its dark) that our neighbours have removed their shanty town bird house (huge aiviary made up of allsorts of junk wood and metal sheeting) and lo and behold have erected a 20foot long 8 foot high polytunnel in its place- im gonna see how much light it blocks out at the weekend and get straight onto the council (its association housing) cos thats more of an eyesore than the aviary (sp)

Oh no :(

Is this any help?

"In general you do not need planning permission for sheds, greenhouses, summerhouses or polytunnels. However you will need to apply for planning permission if the polytunnel is nearer to any road than the nearest part of the house, unless there’s at least 20m between the polytunnel and a road. You can’t build over 3m high (or more than 4m if it has a pitched roof). A pitched roof has its ridge at the centre, and both sides slope down at the same angle - this accurately describes a polytunnel roof".
