I seem to have run out - it's on my shopping list now. I have found some herring roe - oh lovely on toast, but I don't know if that's any good for the girls - and it doesn't matter - they aren't getting those!

Herrings roe, floured, lightly sauteed in butter & served on hot crispy crumpets...........aaaaahhhh food of the gods

"What's that awful stuff then - you're not eating that?" is a typical OH comment on herring roe! His mum used his head as a tee when he was a baby.

Hi Sandy. Well she's fluffing out nicely and not getting so much pecking from Sioux. She has one very pink end to her comb and less pink everywhere else, but not the wishy washy colour that she had been. She is also reminding the youngsters of her position (but not wanting to take Sioux on yet). Sioux at the moment is otherwise engaged in the nestbox! Poos are still fine and she had a nice bath in the proper dust bath yesterday. Her tail is growing well now and it is very high up in the air, haughty madam! As long as it doesn't pale down again I will still keep an eye on her. She runs fine too. I am thinking that when her moult is complete then she will be better still. The last few dreadlocks around her legs have finally dropped off yesterday and she looks more like an Orpie now. The fishy bits seem to work well so far. Tried some new poultry spice with their brekkers - now I think it smells so tasty - bit of nutmeg, clove and cinammony (yum), but they turned their noses up at it.

Pilchards for them tonight.

Could it just be moulting that is making her feel bad?

 

All of mine are at the mo and are moping around, generally looking sorry for themselves.

I think that is the main thing Christian - she looked quite rosy this evening (not as bright red as the others, but much better). I'm a lot happier with her - plus they all scoffed the pumpkin seeds. No pilchards left - they even licked the bowls clean.

Just an update - she's getting much pinker now. Feathers are filling out nicely too. Probably all hand in hand there. Still giving them the fishy bits every other day and gradually will reduce it a bit more. She also seems to have much more energy and is telling the youngsters that she is still above them in the ranking order. Now that she happily hangs out with the babes while Sioux is in the nesting box (she never did with Cheyenne), we don't get long whingeing sessions either. So pluses all round in this part of the world.

Her wattles and daubs are now up to scratch with everyone else - not only that but she laid an egg today - but my goodness was she a whinger today (probably announcing the arrival of the egg)!

Thanks everyone for the input - and the oregano stimmy stuff seems to have worked wonders - and the tuna, mackerel, pilchards etc! Just to make sure I also bought a bottle of the other make of oregano stuff!
