coco
One of my ex batts is all puffed up and looking very sorry for herself. she is opening and closing her beak as if she is nibblling on something. She was eating and drinking fine when I went to work this morning and has had a few mealy worms just now. They have been wormed with Flubenvet last week. Any thoughts as to what might be wrong with her.
Egluntyne
Does she sound wheezy or rattly when you hold her up to your ear? If so she might have a chest infection and will need to see a vet.
sandyhas3chucks
I know it is dark now, but have a peek and see what she is doing now. If she still has an open beak and is like panting. I would get her off to vet tonight if possible.
coco
She is not wheezy or panting. She doesn't seem to be having any problems with her breathing. She was on her perch when I put them to bed [she only started perching yesterday] I thought she would have been on on the house floor with the other ex batt. The opening and closing of her beak is very slow and only opened a little bit. If chickens could chew it would be like she was chewing something slowly. If she is no better tomorrow I'll get the vet to have a look at her.
Dappy Chick
Have you looked inside her mouth/beak to see if there is anything stuck? The last time I had something like that it was a long big of grass that I had to pull out?
Dappy Chick
Sorry I forgot about the puffed up bit - may be a vet visit is required
sandyhas3chucks
puffed up, maybe a softee on the way, lets hope that if so, it is out by the morning . I haven't had anything like this sounds. You have done the right thing by checking, things, see how she is in the morning and check like dappy chick says. Let us know how the morning sees her
coco
Hopefully she seems to be better this morning. Still slightly puffed up but eating and drinking. She was chunuring at me to come out this morning. there is a large patch of wet shavings in the house, last time I had this was when one laid a softie so I'm hoping this was the problem. Yhanks for all advice.
JS1
That's exactly what happened when one of mine laid a softy - after that she was right as rain, so hope yours is okay too.
